POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for participants in the fitness center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Builds effective, authentic relationships with members, program members and community partners; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
Maintains records as required (i.e. Wellness 101, Teen Wellness, etc.).
Provide individualized exercise programming including safety and proper technique.
Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
Organizes and puts away fitness equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
Maintains a clean and safe fitness center.
Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS | ABUSE PREVENTION:
Upholding the YMCA's commitment to the safety and well-being of youth in our programs is a core responsibility of all staff regardless of position. Attend required abuse risk management training.
Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
Adhere to procedures related to managing and supervising high-risk activities.
Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS: Certifications: Basic CPR, AED, First Aid and New Leader Orientation within 90 days of hire.
At least 18 years of age.
Ability to lead and develop exercise programs.
Experience and/or education in the exercise field is preferred.

Must be able to adequately explain the workout of the individual class/program.
Must be able to lift 45 pounds.
Must be able to explain proper form, safety and techniques with all equipment.
Ability to speak concisely and communicate effectively to individuals and groups of varied age, size and ability.
May be required to perform frequent amounts of but not limited to: bending, sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, lifting and moving objects/equipment.
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
May have infrequent contact with bodily fluids of others (i.e. sweat, blood, etc...)
The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud Akron Area YMCA
