Good Shepherd Pet Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team. We are a 2 doctor practice that sees dogs and cats. That means no overnight shifts or on-call hours! Saturdays are rotated among our staff, giving you ample opportunity for full weekends off. What Should You Bring to the Table? Job Description The Veterinary Technician Assistant is the Veterinary Technician’s primary support. They assist in restraining pets and test setup for the examination procedure. They aid the technicians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of some routine work. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provides compassionate care to patients and clients. Keeps accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy. Prepares and maintains the exam rooms and treatment areas. Performs physical assessments and records observations legibly in files or veterinary software systems. Can effectively restrain pets, even when large or difficult. Knows all common vaccines and vaccination protocols and can explain them to clients. Understands the importance of a clean and orderly facility and maintains it as part of regular job duties. Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees. Prepares estimates for procedures and discusses financial commitments with clients. Able to explain necessary follow-up and home care instructions to clients. Can properly care for all surgical materials and equipment. Sets up for clinical laboratory procedures and maintains files of lab test results. Can effectively position for and take radiographs of patients. Understands the use and care of IV pumps. Admits patients following hospital policy and doctor’s written orders. Discharges patients based on the veterinarian’s orders. Performs other duties as assigned.
