Job Description Job Description Full-time position Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Triage Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care by assessing, planning and implementing patient care in coordination with healthcare providers. This role involves prioritizing patient care based on clinical judgment and protocols, ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate care. The triage nurse will use critical thinking skills to evaluate patient symptoms and concerns either in person or via telephone and determine the appropriate level of care required. Requirements Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must have a current, valid Registered Nurse License in the State of Kansas, or a Compact Registered Nurse License authorized to work in the State of Kansas. Must have current BLS certification. Must have previous clinical experience, with preference for triage or phone triage experience. Duties Answer incoming calls from patients, listen carefully to their medical concerns, and assess the urgency of their needs. Use established clinical protocols to provide medical advice, recommend self-care, or instruct patients on when to seek further medical attention. Schedule appointments for patients based on the severity of their condition or follow-up needs. Educate patients on medications, procedures, and treatments as necessary. Communicate patient symptoms and medical history accurately to physicians or other healthcare providers for further evaluation or action. Document all interactions in the electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring accurate and timely information. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations in all patient interactions. Manage patient inquiries about test results, prescriptions, and treatment plans, following up as needed. Monitor and prioritize calls based on the urgency of medical conditions and direct patients accordingly.
