Position Summary

The  Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all  federal, state, and local transportation regulations (FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, etc.). This position supports drivers, dispatch, and maintenance teams to promote safe operations and minimize risk company-wide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with  FMCSA, DOT, and state transportation safety regulations .

  • Monitor and maintain  driver qualification files , including MVRs, medical cards, drug and alcohol testing, and training records.

  • Conduct and document  new driver orientations and ongoing  safety training sessions.

  • Perform regular  vehicle inspections, audits, and ride-alongs to ensure safety and service standards.

  • Investigate all  accidents, incidents, and near misses , prepare reports, and implement corrective actions.

  • Maintain accurate  accident logs, safety records, and compliance documentation .

  • Coordinate  drug and alcohol testing programs in compliance with DOT requirements.

  • Collaborate with maintenance to ensure all vehicles meet  preventive maintenance and safety standards .

  • Assist with  insurance claims and communicate with adjusters as needed.

  • Track and analyze safety performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements.

  • Foster a  proactive safety culture , encouraging continuous improvement and driver engagement.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Transportation, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of safety or compliance experience in the transportation or motor coach industry.

  • Strong working knowledge of  FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, and driver safety practices .

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

  • Proficiency in  Microsoft Office and fleet management software 

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; CDL preferred or ability to obtain one.
