We partner with schools, communities, and employers to help students overcome barriers and succeed in both career and life.
Position Overview JAG-NM seeks an experienced Grant Writer (Consultant) to secure funding to support organizational growth and sustainability. The consultant will identify, research, and prepare proposals, manage post-award reporting, and maintain a grants pipeline. The consultant will work independently while coordinating with leadership to ensure alignment with priorities.
Scope of Work / Deliverables Research and identify funding opportunities aligned with JAG-NM’s mission. Prepare and submit proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents. Draft grant budgets in partnership with leadership. Maintain a grant pipeline and submission calendar Prepare funder reports to ensure compliance and stewardship. Provide monthly updates on submissions, pending requests, and upcoming opportunities.
Performance Goals By Month 6: Develop a funding pipeline with at least 15 opportunities, complete 10 submissions, and meet all reporting requirements. By Month 12: Complete 20–30 submissions, build relationships with at least 5 new funders, and establish a grants calendar and narrative bank for organizational use. Ongoing: Submit 2–3 proposals or LOIs per month, deliver 100% of reports on time, and provide monthly progress updates to leadership
Qualifications Proven record of securing foundation, corporate, or government grants. Strong writing, editing, and research skills with a clear and persuasive style. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and deliver proposals on time. Familiarity with nonprofit budgets and reporting requirementsKnowledge of workforce development, youth services, or education initiatives preferred.
Compensation & Terms Independent contractor agreementMonthly retainer: $1,000–$1,500 based on experience and results. Flexible, remote work with occasional virtual check-ins with leadership
