Golf Course Superintendent

Salary:

$45,614 DOE

FLSA Status:

Exempt

Summary

The Golf Course Superintendent will be responsible for maintaining the grounds during all seasons. Responsible for maintaining an aesthetically pleasing and functional outdoor space. Responsible for insecticides, chemical sprays, fertilizers, and mulches to optimize the condition of greenery. Serve as a liaison between the golf course staff, residents and the local community, and represent the facility at meetings when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the irrigation installation, repairs, and water conservation initiatives.
  • Develops and executes grounds facility/maintenance Policies & Procedures
  • Routine golf course maintenance and equipment maintenance
  • Maintains data logs and reports for the grounds
  • Responsible for keeping an inventory of grounds supplies & ordering supplies
  • Coordinate with the Head Mechanic to repair, clean, paint, and refurbish equipment.
  • Make necessary recommendations to promote and enhance the welfare of the golf course and amenities
  • Recruit, train and supervise the golf laborers, mechanics, irrigation technician, and equipment operators
  • Supervising staff to ensure compliance with safety trainings
  • Oversee and plan projects for the golf course such as annual over seed, aeration, transition, etc.
  • Cooperate with Pro Shop staff for tournaments, daily play, and general course condition
  • Oversee fertilizer and chemical applications.
  • Develop and implement agronomic programs for turfgrass, trees, and shrubs; monitoring and controlling pests
  • Developing and managing budgets
  • Supervising staff to ensure compliance with safety trainings
  • Other duties may be assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have a strong working knowledge of mower operations, utility carts, tractor, spreaders, irrigation systems and small equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of golf course water management, irrigation, landscaping techniques and processes
  • Knowledge of pesticides, fertilizers, seeding, and proper application methods
  • Ability to operate various types of power equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment
  • A working knowledge of the construction, establishment, and maintenance practices employed on golf course putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Prior management of Bermuda grass and Winter Rye grass preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

Qualifications

  • Class A or B golf course superintendent’s certification and/ or turf management diploma; preferred
  • Computer skills: emails, Microsoft Office, workflow software, point of sale system
  • Must be able to work indoors/outdoors, in extreme weather conditions as needed
  • Current valid Arizona Driver's license
  • Certified and /or licensed for pesticide usage
  • Must pass DPS/FBI fingerprint background check

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, or related field.
  • 2-year specialized work experience, 4 years in related field, management or director position.
  • Experience in coordinating, scheduling, planning, and prioritizing multiple projects in a limited time frame.
